Over 1000 students attended an event at the Emirates Stadium last week and British athletes Jade Johnson, Sharron Davies and Derek Redmond were there to share their personal experiences with the pupils.
Youngsters aged between 14 and 18 years from all over the UK were at ‘The 2012 Sporting Legacy' event which was specifically for children and included discussions and activities presented by the athletes as well as an exclusive tour of the 2012 Olympic venues.
‘The 2012 Sporting Legacy’ was hosted by broadcaster Garry Richardson and organised by school trips operator Adaptable Travel. Derek gave a presentation talking students through how he, along with Roger Black, John Regis and Kris Akabusi overcame the odds to win the 4x400m Men’s Relay Final in the 1991 Tokyo World Championships by beating the favourites, the team from USA, by four hundredths of a second.
